Entertainment Industry Meets Culinary Arts

We all are in need of a little networking time. Rather than attend an overrated event with too many people and not enough refreshments to pass around, lets look a little deeper and find the events that really make an impression on your contact list.

Next Thursday, October 28, the Vice will be attending a special networking event hosted by Culinary Artist Maribel Fernandez Dillon. We are excited to mingle with the latest event planners, photographers, stylists, and sample some of Maribel's fun menu items! Check out the details below. Feel free to RSVP if you wish to make some new contacts. Email monica@iscprgroup.com or call 305-984-2715.

CRAZY FOR THE CUP!

Every four years the entire world [except the United States] shuts down to watch the world’s most widely viewed sporting event, the World Cup. With an estimated 715.1 million people watching the final match of the 2006 World Cup held in Germany, according to FIFA.com. The US is slowly but surely coming around with the US team ranking in this year’s Cup. This year’s FIFA World Cup, being held in Africa, is a nail biter and the US team might be creating a newfound respect for soccer here in the states.

The USA team started off the tournament ranked number 13 out of 32 teams. Although, the first round has just concluded, the US ended up wining one game and tying two.

Why is it that every other country stops what they are doing to watch their team play a match in the World Cup, and the US can’t pause for a second? Is it because the USA team has never been a strong player in the tournament, or is it because Americans just don’t care about soccer? Is it because we have so many other sports going on from football and basketball to UFC fights that we just do not have the time or the energy for one more sport!

In my opinion, it has to do with us not being one of the top teams in the tournament. Americans tend to be fair weather fans, I mean look at the recent Lakers vs. Celtic games, all of a sudden people who I know didn’t watch basketball were getting to bars 2 hours early, just so they could get a “good seat” to watch the game. Really? But will the USA team ever be that good? We have some hope this year with captain Carlos Bocanegra and Landon Donavon who have been playing extremely well in the past few games. It is just up to the team as a whole to finish what they have started and continue to surprise the rest of the world.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand, the World Cup. As of now, the United States team has passed the first round. This is determined as follows:

a. the greatest number of points obtained in all group matches,

b. goal difference in all group matches

c. greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

Although I am a team USA fan, I do want Portugal to make it far. What about you? Who do you want to see win?

over && out, Candice.

Women are busier than ever before — from constantly multitasking to always striving to look great every moment of every day. Here are some tips on how to transform a daytime work outfit into an evening look that will get you the attention you deserve.

Women are busier than ever before — from constantly multitasking to always striving to look great every moment of everyday. Here are some tips on how to transform a daytime work outfitinto an evening look that will get you the attention you deserve.

Tip #1: Make a statement with a pencil skirt

I recommend wearing a black pencil skirt to give presence and distinction. A blueberry top adds balance and credibility. If you’re looking for more impact, or some pizzazz for a special date once you punch out, creating a color contrast is an option; a sparkling wine or berry color works perfectly. If your body silhouette is curvy, look for pencil skirts that don’t hug your figure too tightly.

Tip #2: Add or switch accessories

A pencil skirt look best with 1 to 4-inch heels. Try kitten heels, pumps and peep-toes for work, and sandals for night. For evening outings, try to take just a clutch or a small bag. Big or medium sizes are appropriate for daytime.

Tip #3: Jewelry is flattering for day & night

Change from toned-down day/work jewelry to something that makes more of a statement at night. Your face and body shape should help you choose the right jewelry. Small jewelry can get lost on large figures, while bold pieces may overpower petites.I recommend leaving oversized jewelry for date night! When it comes to jewelry, size does matter!

Cooking with the Spirit of Italy

If you are itching to escape to an exotic land, there is a unique treasure here in Miami that will surely fulfill your need for a cultural experience, the first stop: L'italia. Last week, The Vice had the privilege of being a guest at the Spirit of Italy Culinary Extravaganza Cooking Class. It was a magical evening filled with a handful of foodies and wine connoisseurs from all walks of life, coming together for a taste of Italy.

The gathering included an interactive "cucinato" lesson by Culinary Artist Maribel Dillon. She and her trusty team shared the secrets to making delicious marinara, perfect risotto and more. We filled our bellies with a 6 course dinner of authentic Italian Dishes paired with wines and liquors imported from Italy by Tita Italia. A delectable night of food, wine and live jass reflected a exclusive menu that will be showcased on the "Grande Italia Tour" some of the attendees are embarking on in August through tour company Luxury Tours for Less.

This cucinato lesson was the ultimate culinary experience and one that The Vice will surely go back to for seconds. Classes are held monthly. For more information visit SpiritofItaly.net

Buon Appetito!!!!

Oh Summer, Where Have You Been!

Finally, the sun has come up!  Time to get those bathing suits out and enjoy the splendor of the ravishing sun and just let it melt you away with everlasting energy.... well obviously with a good coat of sun block.  The ocean breeze, the salty smell of the water and the ever-wonderful feeling of having sand between your toes.  Many believe that the only joy one can get from a day at the beach is that toasty bronze color you get afterwards, but actually the ocean has a lot more to offer and this are few of what a day out with the sea may bring to all:

The ocean calms by virtue of its continuity. It is always there, though frequently undergoing transformation from tranquil calm to the chaos of fierce storms and back again.

The ocean is vast and mysterious, well known at its edges, unexplored at its depths. At times peaceful and serene, friendly and accepting of human life, then a powerful and tumultuous frenzy of wind and wave energy, life-threatening for humans. We know but a fraction of an ocean, yet we accept its existence and its vagaries of behavior.

The ocean simultaneously humbles us and inspires reflection upon who we are and life's purpose.
The ocean supports an endless array of life. No one life form dominates. It seems the ocean is saying that "no one way of living is the right way"; each way is right for particular beings.

So The Vice invites you to take a day out of your hectic work day and just absorb the splendor of the ocean. If by any chance you live far from it, don't worry you can still enjoy it here.

BELIEVE THE HYPE! Miami

Presented by La Revenge x Bold Hype x Eazy Street gallery, this exhibit is the 2nd installment of the group show in Orlando. The show opened in Miami on April 10, 2010 at Eazy Street Gallery in the Wynwood Arts District and the Vice was thrown right into the mix.

While sipping on complimentary Seven Tiki Spiced Rum and rocking out to the effervescent old school sounds of DJ Keen-One, The Vice was utterly amused and awed by the display of low-brow art. The show featured a live bodiless head, some 2-d art works, mind blowing murals, a suspended sculpture, live art and a good 'ol rendition of Nessie the Loch Ness Monster swimming in the cyc wall. Curated by Dustin Orlando, BELIEVE THE HYPE! Miami features artwork by a variety of local and national talent.

The exhibit runs through the entire month of April at Eazy Street Gallery, located at 3501 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33137.

"BROWN SOUP THING"

This mysterious title not only can be identified with that yummy dish you can't quite remember the name of...from that one restaurant...it's an emerging Asian American feature film The Vice came across last month. "Brown Soup Thing", written, directed and produced by Edward J. Mallillin, was featured at the 2010 Delray Beach Film Festival on March 27 as one of the most sought after films, due to the record breaking attendance in Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas. The Vice attended the film in support of a friend and fellow cast member Julius Mayo Jr.

"Brown Soup Thing" is a comedy/drama about a dysfunctional, yet pretty normal, Filipino American family who is forced to individually recognize what their heritage means thanks to the youngest family member's school project on what it means to be a Filipino American. The emerging cast held an interesting record with male and female actors featured on Hi-5, Deal or No Deal, and the Bold and the Beautiful. And, lets not forget the amusing cameos especially from the great boxer Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao. Overall this film appeals to any individual with a diverse racial background and the struggle to find the balance between loving one's heritage and living the American dream. Booby Fest 2010

Crazy to think that there should be a fest regarding the perfection and embellishment of the boobies, but hey this is Miami, plastic surgery is implied.  So the Vice had the honor of attending the esteemed plastic surgeon, Dr. Leonard Rudner's Booby Fest 2010.A party praising silicone enhanced beauty.  With celebrities ranging from Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. to Vince Shlomi, A.K.A. the Shamwow Guy, the event was something to be remembered.  Not only because of the abundance of the bodacious bodies but the entertainment, including half clad cupids, robotized super models rooftop DJs and booby cupcakes.  Waiting anxiously at what is in store for Booby Fest 2011.

Cavalia

Cavalia, one event where horses are the main show and magic comes from water, air and sand.  From the same creators of Cirque du Soleil, this two-hour event keeps you mesmerized at how strong the bond between man and  a horse has become throughout the years.  "The horse is God's gift to Man," an Arabian Proverb is one of the many quotes that welcomes you as you enter the white tent. It sets the stage perfectly and makes you understand that there is nothing more powerful than the friendship between a man and its horse.

With a team of 64 horses made up of 28 stallions and 36 geldings (neutered males), you are able to sense how the discipline of dressage is established as you see them walk with such unison, elegance and precision.  There is a mix of elements of time, as they show Wild West lasso twirling, Roman riding and medieval magic. Flying acrobats and aerialists, plus live musicians, make the whole experience out of this world.

Why So Blue?

Forget the notion that having the "case of the blues" represents a bad thing.  What comes to your mind when you see a bright blue sky? Purity? Prosperity? Freedom? What is it about a specific color that immediately makes a subconscious image in your mind?  For some reason, our minds react toward colors and emulate a special significance and an emotional feeling associated to it.  Lets explore the color blue.

Blue has always had a special meaning to a bride, according to tradition; they should always remember something blue.  But what is it about this color that has transmitted such a special connotation throughout the years?  Well, blue has been connected to weddings for centuries.  According to ancient history, brides wore blue in Rome to symbolize love, modesty and fidelity.  This idea is believed to have been created by the typical image seen in the Virgin Mary, who has always been featured wearing blue.

And where did the sense of calmness and prosperity come from?  It was thought that when our ancestors looked upon the blue of a new day, they felt safe after experiencing the fear of the previous night.
Now, dark blue is a total different story.  It has been associated with power and authority as we see on uniforms of policeman. It is surprising how the same color has different meanings.  So what does the color blue represent to you?
